Bluehost Supports Mod_deflate Now

I got this piece of news from Bluehost CEO Matt’s blog that Bluehost now support Apache Mod_deflate compression now.

Mod_deflate consumes more CPU resources than Mod_gzip which Bluehost started to support about 10 years ago, with the help of proprietary CPU protection system, Bluehost will balance the CPU consumption and the http compression, you needn’t to worry about CPU exceeded. Proprietary CPU protection system track CPU usage twice a second in realtime, if CPU usage exceeds a certain threshold then Bluehost will temporarily suspend Mod_deflate.

With a full day of Mod_deflate, it reduced bandwidth 600Mb/s, it is a significant number! As Matt introduced in his blog, Bluehost now have 20Gb/s bandwidth in total.

Not only reduced the bandwidth, but it also speed up your website/blog, with data compressed at server side, it will need less time to transmit the data between server and client.

Happy Bluehost and happy blogging!
